The first Sofia Restaurant was opened in Camberwell in 1954. Featuring a limited menu of pizza and pasta, the restaurant’s popularity grew until it took over the adjoining shopfronts and expanded into the Camberwell institution it is today. Its menu grew along with the restaurant until it now boasts a large number of chicken, steak and seafood dishes as well as their famous over-sized desserts. To see how far Sofias has come, please see our Menu page for the full extent of our menu.

The decision was made to franchise the core ideas behind the restaurant - generous servings, good service and low prices, all with authentic Italian style - and several new Sofia Restaurants were built in various parts of Melbourne. Today there are six restaurants in the Sofias chain - one in Preston, Wheeler’s Hill, Frankston, Croydon, South Morang and the original restaurant still operating in Camberwell.

Over the last 50 years, the core values of generous servings, good service, and low prices haven’t changed - we figure, why change what has made us popular in the first place? When you have a winning formula, stick with it. Come on in and pay us a visit!
